The world today is both wonderfully diverse and uncomfortably divided. The existence of what is known as a polycrisis suggests that we are heading towards an irreversible social and ecological collapse. However, we can reframe the compounding problems of our era—climate chaos, geopolitical conflict, and social divisions—as an opportunity for unprecedented cooperation and change. By understanding the human context, we can find these opportunities. It is important to understand why people feel divided, and whether we actually are. We also need to recognize and address the needs, dreams, and fears that stem from the polycrisis, in order to define the role of businesses within it.
